Testimonials
I love playing competitive tennis. As a USTA-ranked player, and one who enjoys gritty match play, the GOBs format provides a welcome contrast through pre-arranged games with foursomes of similar talent. I can focus on further developing my game in a more relaxed setting and don’t have to be concerned with match results, and the impact on my ranking.
As a participant in the FCTL, GOBs allows me to hone my skills in day-time play against seasoned players, many of whom also play in the FCTL. Because I still travel for work, GOBs allows me the flexibility to play when convenient with my schedule and assures me of a competitive match due to the time GOBs management invests in pairing similar skill level players. All I have to do is sign-up and show-up, which makes the process simple and the experience a very enjoyable one.
I play tennis year round since I’m in FL for six months of the year. While in FL, I am an active participant in competitive league play in which games are played during the day against seasoned racquet players. When I’m back home in CT, I play competitive tennis at night in the FCTL but also look forward to continuing to play competitive tennis during the day. GOBs provides me a hassle-free opportunity to do just that with a great group of guys.
Our club has limited opportunities for retirees to play competitive tennis during the day. The GOBs is a genius creation. It allows me to play with people my age, as often as four times a week. I register for a date, then I just show-up. You can play up to three hours, if you wish. And, as a bonus, many of the clubs offer lunch so you can indulge in the cuisine of different kitchens. I cannot imagine a better organization.
GOBs has become a great warm-up for FCTL play and the many scheduled dates makes it easy to do so over the league’s whole season. Also, it’s a truly fulfilling experience having the chance to improve my game and to have fun socializing with other members from the various clubs, who have teamed up with the GOBs to make this all happen.
I’ve always enjoyed playing racquet sports and have competed at a number of levels over the years in tennis and paddle and, as of late, pickleball. The challenge has always been to arrange foursomes of like skills on weekdays. GOBs offers a spot-on solution to this challenge, as leadership is very focused on making the games as competitive and as fun as possible.
For me, GOBs was an opportunity to play tennis against a wide range of talented players. I played at my convenience, and, most importantly, it exposed me to gentlemen with different backgrounds and perspectives. I grew both as a player and as a person. There are not a lot of these types of opportunities for these benefits as one gets older, unless you’re Tom Brady!
As a tennis enthusiast who plays competitive tennis year-round, I really like the GOBs alternative to play during the week with a select group of good players who are all seniors just like me.
I enjoy my tennis, as I play year-round in league play in FL and CT. I am a big proponent of GOBs, as it provides the opportunity to play competitive tennis with players of similar skill in a friendly setting. I appreciate having the flexibility to participate as much or as little as my schedule permits, which is very important to me.
