As we celebrate Memorial Day today, one of our fellow GOBs members, Gene Markowski, will serve as the Grand Marshal of the Darien Memorial Day Parade. Attached is an in-depth article about Gene that was included in the May 23, 2024 edition of The Darien Times. Gene served as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War and in recognition of more than 500 hours flying in battle, he received the Bronze Star and the Air Medal with 21 Oak Leaf clusters (one for each 25 hours in combat). Gene also received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his personal display of courageous action and professional flying ability for a particular mission in which he made more than 10 trips into a combat zone to pick up fellow soldiers and safely deliver them to the battlefield amid a hail of hostile fire.

Feel free to reach out to Gene and thank him for his service (gene.markowski33@gmail.com) during the weekend, as well as others you may know who served our country.
Best,
Jim
