4th Annual GOBs Tournament

We are delighted to announce that registration for our 4th Annual GOBs Tourney is now open. The overall event is meant to be fun and to reinforce camaraderie and engagement across our membership. While scoring will dictate the ultimate victor of a given match, let’s keep in mind that every participant is a winner. There is no public relations campaign around the event. It is merely for our enjoyment, personal achievement, and group entertainment.

Here are the key points regarding the Tourney:

Coordinating Body: GOBs Executive Committee

Tournament Directors: Jim McGuire and Robin Hogen

Divisions: Doubles and Singles

Flights: A and B

Doubles Pairings: Created by Members (mix of A and B players allowed but will be considered in seedings)

Entries Deadline: Friday, July 12th.

Send an email to the two Tournament Directors, Jim McGuire (jimmcguirect@aol.com) and Robin Hogen (crhogen@gmail.com). Please indicate ‘GOBs Tourney‘ in the subject caption. In the email, please indicate the name of your partner if you plan to play in the Doubles Division. If you are entering the Singles Division, please make sure you indicate Singles Division so there is no confusion why you provided just one name. Every member has the flexibility to enter both Divisions. If you have a preference on the Flight that you wish to play (i.e., A or B), please indicate in your email.

Draws Announced: Friday, July 19th

Tournament Timing: Matches may begin immediately following announcement of draws. Finals will be scheduled in early September.

Scheduling: The Tournament Directors will set targeted completion dates for each round (e.g., Quarters, Semis, and Finals). The actual match time/location will be the responsibility of the members. All matches should be played outside of a play date until the Semis and Finals rounds. If a match is not completed by a target date an inquiry will be made to obtain an update. If it is determined that scheduling the match won’t fit into the overall timeline, the winner of the match will be blindly selected from a hat.

Format: Two out of three sets

Scoring: Normal scoring for first two sets (including a 7 point tiebreaker where necessary). If first two sets are split, a super 10-point tiebreaker can be played in lieu of a third set (have to win by two points) to determine winner of match. If a full set is preferred rather than a 10-point tiebreaker and both sides agree to that format then a full set can be played.

Submission of Scores: Provide to Jim McGuire at jimmcguirect@aol.com and Robin Hogen (crhogen@gmail.com) after every match.

Tourney Results Announcement: Updates will be provided throughout the tournament and the timing and location of the Semis and Finals rounds will be announced to the entire membership. Winners and Finalists of each Division and Flight will be communicated to the membership and will be awarded trophies.

Please forward any questions or comments to my email at jimmcguirect@aol.com. Robin Hogen and I look forward to receiving your entries.

Thank you,
Jim
