3rd Annual GOBs Tourney

We are delighted to announce that registration for our 3rd Annual GOBs Tennis Tourney is now open. The overall event is meant to be fun and to reinforce camaraderie and engagement across our membership. While scoring will dictate the ultimate victor of a given match, let’s keep in mind that every participant is a winner. There is no public relations campaign around the event. It is merely for our enjoyment, personal achievement, and group entertainment.
Here are important elements of the Tourney:
Coordinating Body: GOBs Executive Committee
Tournament Directors: Jim McGuire and Jim Kelly
Divisions: Doubles and Singles
Flights: A (Level I self-rated) and B (Levels IIA, IIB, and III self-rated)
Doubles Pairings: Created by Members (mix of A and B players allowed but will be considered in seediings)
Entries Deadline: Friday, June 23rd. Send an email to Jim McGuire (jimmcguirect@aol.com) and Jim Kelly (jrkteeitup@aol.com). Please indicate ‘GOBs Tourney’ in the subject caption. In the email, please indicate the name of your partner if you plan to play in the Doubles Division. If you are entering the Singles Division, please make sure you indicate Singles Division so there is no confusion why you provided just one name. Every member has the latitude to enter both Divisions. If you have a preference on the Flight that you wish to play (i.e., A or B), please indicate in your email.
Draws Announced: Monday, July 10th
Tournament Timing: Immediaely following announcement of draws through early/mid September
Scheduling: The Tournament Directors will set targeted completion dates for each round (e.g., Quarters, Semis, and Finals). The actual match time/location will be the responsibility of the members so they can identify mutually convenient times to play outside of a play date. If a match is not completed by a target date, there will be an inquiry made to obtain an update on scheduling. If it is determined that scheduling the match won’t fit into overall timeline, the winner of the match will be blindly selected from a hat.
Format: Two out of three sets
Scoring: Normal scoring for first two sets (including a 7 point tiebreaker where necessary). If first two sets are split, a super 10-point tiebreaker will be played in lieu of a third set (have to win by two points) to determine winner of match.
Submission of Scores: Provide to Jim McGuire at jimmcguirect@aol.com and Jim Kelly at jrkteeitup@aol.com
Tourney Results Announcement: We will provide updates throughout the tournament and will announce the timing and location of the Semis and Finals rounds to the entire membership. Winners and Finalists of each Division and Flight will be communicated to the membership.
Please forward any questions or comments to me via email at  jimmcguirect@aol.com.
Jim Kelly and I look forward to receiving your entries.
Thank you,
Jim
